SPECIAL DISCUSSION: PROTECTING CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Critical infrastructure includes the vast network of highways, railways, utilities, and buildings necessary to maintain normalcy in our daily lives. Transportation, commerce, clean water, and electricity rely on these vital systems, not to mention emergency services, communications, energy, and food/agriculture.

As Africa progresses, internet-based technologies are becoming an integral part of its critical infrastructure. This session will discuss a host of vulnerabilities and risks, how to anticipate and mitigate cyber threats, the magnitude of the risks, the consequences of security breaches, and Africa’s initiatives to ensure the resilience of critical information systems and achieve a coherent baseline-level approach to cybersecurity.
